Household Appliances
Safety and quality - domestic appliances Produce, procure and sell with greater success
The world of household appliances knows no borders. Nevertheless, any company wishing to open up new sectors of this global market has to overcome certain hurdles - otherwise known as European and national directives. This is where TÜV RheinlandProduct Safety can offer its support.
In order to achieve success on a global scale, domestic appliances must offer a high degree of safety.
Since the requirements for testing are as different as the appliances covered by the term "General Appliances" TÜV Rheinlandseperates appliances into 7 major groups. This should make it easier for customers to retrieve updated information and find testing requirements for their particular product classification.
Group 1: Luminaires
This group covers the full range of luminaires, from table lamps & floodlights to lighting chains and toy-luminaires,. Luminaire accessories can be found in Group 6.
Group 2: Portable Household appliances
This group covers household appliances that are not for commercial use and usually have a weight of less than 18kg, like vaccum-cleaners, steam-irons and kitchen appliances etc.
Group 3: Stationary Household appliances
This group covers appliances that are either fixed to a support or weigh more than 18kg, for example cooking ranges, range hoods, tumble dryers, washing machines, etc.
Group 4: Cooling Appliances
Cooling appliance include all appliances incorporating a compressor and cooling fluid, such as refrigerators, ice-cream-machines, air-conditioners and de-humidifiers etc.
Group 5: Components for use with household appliances
A component can be any component that is part of an appliance from any of the other groups. Examples include: switches, power-cords, fuses, thermostats, electronic ballasts for luminaires, plugs, connectors etc.
Group 6: Commercial appliances
Tests for appliances that are commercially used are usually stricter than those for appliances used at home. This is because commerical appliances are used much more frequently and might therefore receive rougher treatment. This group includes all appliances for which special commercial use requirements exist.
Test requirements
TÜV RheinlandTaiwan experts can inform you about the latest requirements and testing details. Ask for a technical meeting to get a general opinion about your prototype so as to avoid expensive modifications in a later production state.
Available test-marks
1. household appliancesBeside the GS-mark and the TUV (Bauart)-mark, we also offer the Key-mark for manufacturers in Europe. Most international marks are available through the CB-scheme or directly through our subsidiaries in the country concerned. Please check our international approvals page for more detail.
2. components for household appliancesOur TUV marks indicate that your component has been tested according to the relevant standard, saving time and money for manufacturers using your component in their appliances.
The GS-mark only applies to ready-to-use appliances and therefore can usually not be applied to components.
With regards other appliance we can issue a CB-report for most components, please check the link below for details.
The CE-mark must only be put on appliances which are intended to be sold in Europe without further modifications or which are obviously for a do-it-yourself purpose, not for those that will only be sold as part of a more complete appliance which then has to CE-marked itself.
