SimREACH
Our Cost Simulation Expert System
Using SimREACHR software developed by TÜV BioTech we simulate, for example, the new chemicals regulations. SimREACH® converts the 670 pages of draft legislation into computing operations. They enable a chemicals company to check whether its strategic decisions still make sense in view of the new legislation.
The software can be used to deduce best and worst case scenarios from specific substance registration data. Registration costs depend on a number of variables. Key variables include the quantities produced or traded in a year, the areas in which the substance is to be used, and the data that is already available.
SimREACH® takes these complex regulations into account by means of around ten million computing operations. For a phosphorus derivative of which 1,000 tonnes a year is produced, for example, the REACH costs can amount to more than EUR 1 million a year (for a single registree). If, however, less than 1,000 tonnes is produced and other cost strategies take effect, the cost can fall to less than EUR 600,000.
® SimREACH and R.E.Tox are registered treade marks and may only be used with prior consent.
Portfolio Evaluation
A Basis for Your Action Strategies
Once you know about data gaps and the resulting costs you can start thinking about portfolio evaluation. For each substance you will receive a report and an evaluation of any tests that have yet to be undertaken.
On this basis you can decide which REACH strategy is the best for you. You will then, after all, have the answers to the following questions:
- Which substances should I register and which ones are “not sure”?
- Which time scale makes sense for the company?
- Should we join a consortium?
- What will be the financial requirements?
