TÜV Rheinland Taiwan recognized by BSMI as designated testing laboratory for VPC approval of safety-critical components and battery chargers
The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) announced the implementation of the Voluntary Product Certificate (VPC) program on 29 Dec. 2004. Safety-critical components, battery chargers, digital-TV receivers, restriction of hazardous substances in electro-technical products, lithium batteries, and vehicle EMC have been covered under the VPC program since 27 April 2005. The BSMI also announced that any domestic third-party testing laboratory may apply for BSMI designation for the abovementioned products as of 1 Nov. 2005.
Accreditation certification and recognition are granted after careful and rigorous auditing performed by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) and by BSMI. TÜV Rheinland Taiwan had been recognized as a safety-testing laboratory for the following VPC items: switches for appliances (IEC 61058 series), thermal cut-offs (CNS 14399), automatic electrical controls (IEC 60730 series), circuit breakers (IEC 60934), low-voltage connectors (IEC 60998 and IEC 60999 series), flat quick connectors (IEC 61210), fuses (IEC 60127 series), and battery chargers (CNS 3765 and IEC 60335-2-29).

While conducting final approval for end-products, test houses have either required separate tests for safety-critical components or battery chargers, or specification, test-report, and international certificates. This has caused great inconvenience for component suppliers and end-product manufacturers. Even worse, project lead-times have been delayed and certification costs increased. If you wish to avoid the same situation and attain a better marketing position, please acquire safety-test reports from TÜV Rheinland Taiwan and VPC approval (marks as below) from BSMI for safety-critical components and battery chargers before placing products into the Taiwan market.
