Household Appliances Testing and Certification
The world of household appliances knows no borders. Nevertheless, any company wishing to open up new sectors of this global market has to overcome certain hurdles - otherwise known as European and national directives. This is where TÜV Rheinland Product Safety can offer its support.
In order to achieve success on a global scale, domestic appliances must offer a high degree of safety.
The requirements for their testing are as different as the types of product covered by the term "General Appliances." In terms of testing and certification, TÜV Rheinland separates appliances into the following groups:
Group 1: Portable appliances
This group covers household appliances which usually have a weight of less than 18kg, including:
- Heating appliances, such as toasters, induction hot plates, electric pots, coffee makers, electric fryers, waffle makers, electric glue guns, electric heaters, etc.
- Motor appliances, such as vacuum-cleaners, juice blenders, sewing machines, chargers, massage appliances, dehumidifiers, aquarium pumps, water pumps, fans, etc.
- Combined appliances, such as tumble dryers, room heaters, etc.
Group 2: Hand-held appliances
This group of products includes lightweight electric appliances usually held by the hand when used, such as steam irons, shavers, hair cutters, food blenders, hand-held massage machines, electric glue guns, heat guns, soldering irons, etc.
Group 3: Stationary appliances
This group covers appliances that are either fixed to a support or weigh more than 18kg, such as refrigerators, air-conditioners, ceiling fans, wall-mounted electric water heaters, wall-mounted air cleaners, massage chairs, vending machines, treadmills, etc.
Group 4: Built-in appliances
Items in this product group are usually intended to be installed as part of cabinets or walls, such as built-in fans, electric heaters, motors, motor compressors, etc.
