Product and Environmental Analyses
Industrial production without the use of chemicals is unthinkable. Starting with toys via domestic appliances, textiles, leather products, furniture up to construction materials, nothing is possible without chemical raw materials, chemical catalysts or chemical aggregates. No doubt about it, chemicals are indispensable and can be controlled to ensure they are beneficial.
But the way we handle and use chemicals also entails risks and dangers. Various chemicals have been used in the manufacture of most products. Many of these chemicals are toxic. They can enter the human body and adversely affect a person's health via such pathways as permeation of the skin, inhalation or ingestion.
For the sake of protecting consumers, authorities all over the world require manufacturers as well as distributors to obey relevant laws and regulations if they would like to import products into their local markets. This applies especially to products that come into direct contact with human bodies or food, such as clothes, shoes and food-containers. Official reports or related certificates / safety marks (e.g. TOXPROOF or SG) issued by accredited chemical laboratories are required for products imported into Europe.
